First Grade

Aurora woke up this morning somewhere in the neighborhood of 0530. I heard her voice as she hummed a little tune, shut her drawers, and shushed her little sister who was also awake at the first light of dawn. I groaned and rolled over, pulling the pillow over my head, “Uggh. So. Early”

Then I heard the TV come on, and Dora the Explorer’s annoying little voice filled my head. Shortly after that I turned the coffee pot on, and made breakfast for the kids.

It was the first day of school and my daughter, wearing a frilly blue calf-length dress, danced out of my arms and directly into her teacher’s classroom. Mrs. G. glanced up and smiled at us. She spoke. “Welcome to first grade, Aurora."

Just looking at those pictures makes my eyes fill up, I can only imagine how you were this morning! She is growing so fast! I still want to think of her as a "little girl" but the reality is that she is only a year behind Brenden! Back to school is still a few weeks away for us, and already I am excited/happy/sad/nervous for it. My baby Tristyn will be in Middle School! No! Say it ain't so!
