So I work at two different hospitals here in Tucson, and though the job is the similar, the clientel is VASTLY different. Charting, IVs, tests, drugs, docs, are all the same, but the people who come down south are just sicker. Down south, there are a lot of poor people and a huge homeless population. There is a thriving retirement community, Green Valley, just south of Tucson and just north of the Mexican border. So I see a ton of elderly as well. Up north, it seems as though the clientle is financially better off, but there are more children and younger people that visit that ER. Its interesting to me, because then I see a diverse population, and that in turn bolsters my skills.
I woke up with cold sweats a couple nights ago. I had a dream that I killed a child with an medication error. I sat up for an hour afterwards just to calm down.
Allow me to give you an excerpt from my job description:
"Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne/ airborn disease; Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances; Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness) Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; Handles emergency or crisis situations; May perform emergency care; Subject to many interruptions; Occasionally subjected to irregular hours; Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquires; Requires judgement/action which could result in death of patient"
Yeah, that's about right. Lemme tell you, that I am absolutely.savoring.my.day.off.
