Luekemia : (From Wikipedia.com)
"Damage to the bone marrow, by way of displacing the normal bone marrow cells with higher numbers of immature white blood cells, results in a lack of blood platelets, which are important in the blood clotting process. This means people with leukemia may become bruised, bleed excessively, or develop pinprick bleeds (petechiae).
White blood cells, which are involved in fighting pathogens, may be suppressed or dysfunctional, putting the patient at the risk of developing infections.
Finally, the red blood cell deficiency leads to anemia, which may cause dyspnea. All symptoms may also be attributable to other diseases; for diagnosis, blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy are required.
Some other related symptoms

Leukemia.
Last weekend, Grandma Maxine was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital for the above symptoms. Yesterday our family found out that she has Leukemia. She is not going to survive this cancer. Today, we are meeting with hospice to dicuss futher comfort measures as she does not wish to have any heroic efforts taken to save her life.
I want to be strong for my family, but I feel the weight of saddness on me. I can only hope and pray that Gram does not suffer or have any pain.

((Hugs)) I know I am 8 hours away, but I am here for you anyway. Even if you just need an ear to talk to - call me. Its so hard, but you are such a strong woman.
Mom called me a little bit ago, and told me about Grandma. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Ryan, the girls, Jenn, and your parents.
