Winter in the Old Pueblo
I only know that the sun is out right now
I wanted to wear my new scarf
Itchy and warm and brightly colored like the leaves that
Do not change here in the southwest
Today I spotted a lizard, sluggishly moving despite the clear skies
Allowing for the glare to warm up the old reptile
When the snow falls on nearby mountains, the Scandinavian in me
Rejoices.
I wrap my tenderhearted plants in sheets and blankets to prevent
Ice crystals from destroying the vacuoles during the one or two
Penetrating freezes every winter
There is no wind chill in Tucson.

I love the difference between the snowy mountain and the cactus.
