I love my job. Okay, not necessarily the actual working part, but the 5 days off part definitely rules! I like a good ol' fashioned emergency, like a heart attack that then goes to the cardiac cath lab for stent placement, or a person in shock that then goes to the ICU. Those are the blood and guts (literally) of nursing. I like making people better, I like teaching people about health stuff. Ryan says I just like telling people what to do. But honestly I think being bossy is a trait that most nurses share. As far as patients go I like the elderly, I like the children, its the people in their 20s and 30s that get my goat. Young 20s are okay, because they usually come in for a MVA (motor vehicle accident) or an appendix gone wonkey, you know, legit emergencies. My peers, people my age, AARRRGH. Maybe its because I harbor this secret feeling that, hey, I am healthy, how can there be anything wrong with this 30 year old patient? That is probably it, I see my own possible mortality.
So, while pumping milk at work in a locked room, I came across an article in a magazine that had a great phrase. "Better late than Grumpy" Man! That is going to be my new philosophy. I was raised to be prompt, on time, and even little early to everything. I find myself in the grip of panic when I am desperately trying to get out of the house for work, story time, or whatever. I freak out at the kids because we are gonna be late and they are crying, dawdling, or just being three. Shamefully, there have been a few occasions that I turned in to the "momster" (thanx kari for the phrase) and everybody's sobbing as the car pulls out of the driveway. SO NO MORE, I AM DONE. Better late than grumpy.
Two couples close to us recently found out they are pregnant. Congrats to Tina and Jared, and congrats to Rachel and Brian!
Trystin the trooper is home from his surgeries. Yay T-man! Check his link on Kari's blog http://www.n6bg.com/blog/?user=kari

sorry honey, you dont qualify for "Possible Mortality", none of us do. thats what makes our time here together so precious, so dear. make the most of it! -your loving husband.
I like that: Better late than Grumpy. I HATE to be late, and as such, I too have perhaps yelled at the kids for taking their own sweet time. Gee, me? Yell at kids, loose my temper? No!
I really appreciated your observations on the dying.........that is my experience after taking care of my Mom and David's Mom......both died of cancer.Mom became actually beautiful.
You'd look good in whatever haircut and it's fun to do something new!!!Your family is lovely!
