Sorry about the drought...

BAH! Last week totally sucked.

Um...here in a nutshell: Nico, whom is pictured here, became rather ill over last weekend. I had noticed on Sat. evening that he wasn't playing, or acting like his normal self. I worked sunday, and monday. By Monday PM, he was flat out, or laterally recombant. Something was terribly amiss. He was dehydrated, pale, and not right. I ended up waiting to take him to the vet clinic where I used to work.. Once we got there, my friends Brooke and Doug obatined some labs, and an xray. Nico had peritonits. Dr Paul decided to do surgery that morning, after ruling out his feline leukemia status. And among the gross details of the surgery, they suctioned a liter of green foul-smelling pus out of his abdominal cavity. His heart stopped briefly, and it took FOREVER for him to recover from surgery. My dear friends at Monument East Veterinary Hospital worked night and day with him. He was on IV fliuds, two different anti-inflammitories, three different antibiotics. Then once he was stable enough for home, his meds changed again. I am still giving antibiotic injections and fluids at home. Plus he is on a high-protien post surgery diet. He is better, but still not out of the woods. The bacteria that made him so ill, is apparently very hard to treat... So think about him, send him some well wishes.
I thought he was going to die. I have seen humans with similar septic shock... and they don't make it. I love cats, they are such great healers. I am blessed to have such good friends, who are so talented with animal care.

Astrid took a spill Thursday night. I worked really hard that day, so I was really really tired. I helped get the kids to bed, and then practically passed out. Then sometime later she pushed the stepstool over to our bed, climbed up and was horsing around. She fell off and face-planted onto the hard tile. All I heard was the thick WHAP! and then crying. I turned the light on and there was blood everywhere. Once I ruled out that she had not broken any limbs or her neck, I scooped her up and looked in her mouth. She had bitten her tongue, and holy crap, does that ever bleed! She of course saw the blood and was screaming too. Then she fell asleep, and I had to wake her up to be sure she did not have a concussion. She is fine now, but I think her tongue hurts a little still.

We started swimming lessons, and the kids are doing really well! Aurora can go underwater, and goes a couple of feet "swimming", or maybe "swim-like". Astrid LOVES the water! She jumps in from the side, monkey crawls, and even blows bubbles. She is not too fond of floating on her back though. Ahh, well... I would like to see Aurora actually swimming by the end of summer.

My Mom and Dad are in Mexico this week. They get back tonight from their vacation. I have sorely missed them!

There would be pictures to accompany the entry today, but someone, who will remain nameless, took my camera to take pictures of playing stupid paintball. Speaking of stupid paintball, Ryan left at 0420 this morning to go play in Pheonix, which means he was up at 0315, which means I was up at 0315 as well. Lets see, I have had like 20 cups of coffee, and I have nothing to do? HA HA HA! What time does Target open?

Poor Nico! And Poor Astrid! I know the how bad the tongue bleeds. poor little angle. Aurora will be swimming in no time. Isn't it neat to see them grow and become independent? I love it and I hate it at the same time.

Tristyn is sooooo stinking excited to come down and see you guys. You will have to let me know if there is anything special that he needs to bring, besides a bathing suit.

He asked me last night, "Mom, can I go earlier? Let me go check the internet and find out when I can fly down."
