been away and now I am back

Yeah.

Sorry, it has been a while since a decent update here at the olsonsfour. I have been doing the same thing that I always have been doing, just not writing it down, thinking about it, or even really caring.

My work has been a little on the quiet side lately. The hospital census is low, and that is unusual for this time of year. The snowbirds are arriving, but I think they are bypassing our hospital just because the local interstate is basically shut down. I10 used to have two or three exits that fed into the street leading to St. Mary's. Now they are closed. And we're quiet.

Just a bit of superstion regarding my job: You are never suposed to utter the words, "quiet" or "slow" when inside an ER. Because, that is just too damn tempting of the fates. Which brings me to an interesting thought. Why do ER nurses have all these "superstions" hanging over us?
--If a patient has an abnormal heart rhythm, that might lead to a lethal rhythm we will take our code cart and park it outside their room to 'ward off demons'.
--Never say you are 'bored' at work.
--Never think to yourself, "ArrghH! What else can go wrong??
--Always assume that your patient is
a. drunk enough alcohol to flatten an entire frat house
b. Mixed coke/morphine/benzos/meth/crack/heroin
c. and has a mental disorder
d. and a blood borne pathogen
e. and is somebody's loved son/daughter/wife/husband/brother/sister/ or some other relative

Oh, I like the new look. It feels very fall like.
Those are some intersting superstitions nurses have. Accountants have... well nothing. I guess we are a pretty boring lot!
